Rough Nano-Wires Hold the Secret to Efficient Heat to Electricity Conversion

Gizmodo does a great job outlining an article from Nature magazine about a discovery which will lead to the ability to convert heat energy into electricity.  So many effective uses for this, I can imagine our vehicles, plants and buildings will be covered in nanofibers, and whatever offspring further research creates, to pull waste heat from every possible source.  Using attic heat to power AC would be a wonderful change if it means both cooling the attic air and increasing the efficiency of home energy use.

Researchers create battery powered yarn, it glows via Gizmodo

Brits have invented a yarn capable of powered luminescence.  Part of the beginning of what will culminate with interactive clothing, I can only envision the pitfalls of the technology including commercials, cartoons, music videos, porn or your favorite movie clips playing on a loop as part of fashion.  Not to mention Youtube shirts playing random clips.

I honestly dread the proud parents who will have their child’s pictures shuffling constantly.  Someone will need to invent a secret remote to turn those off.

Subdermal Bra

Surgically Implanted Bra is Like an External Bra, but With More Horrible Surgery Involved

Basically, a new procedure to place an internal silicon bra with attachments to the ribs in place of an external support.  The thing to understand is that there is a belief that modern bras may restrict mammary blood flow, adding to risk of breast cancer.  Whether there can be an argument for the benefit of this invasive technique, beyond maintaining physical appeal and comfort, will remain to be seen.  I, however, do believe it would be a very popular procedure just on an expectation of maintaining physical attractiveness.
